Mistake 8: Not keeping up with the Joneses
You can’t protect what you don’t know about, so it’s critical for security personnel to stay abreast of the latest security trends.
In the digital age there are numerous sources to get information about security threats, including the news media, websites, and blogs. It’s extremely important for security personnel to learn about new viruses, attack types, and vulnerabilities that are happening in your industry and in the wider security world. This knowledge can help you prepare for and prevent future threats.
With so much information out there, specialists should keep a close watch on news in their particular specialties (a network engineer should know about specific network threats, for example).
Staying up to date helps you learn from others’ mistakes.
Dennis Webb, IT Security lead for CAS Severn, will discuss this in more detail at our webinar, Top 10 Security Mistakes (And How to Fix Them) on July 22.
